Based on the initial feedback and apparent demand that arose with the limited release of our Beta conversational ESL apps, contentAI studios determined the need to set up a dedicated, consumer facing site and to create a far more extensive array of ESL apps.

While the “basics” of interactive conversation are at the heart of the experience, we’ll also be adding audio features and multi-media to build out the complete User experience. The “gap” in ESL tools has been in Users being able to practice their conversational skills in a non-linear and “real world” type simulation.

With a projected 3 Billion people learning English as a Second Language, if our tools can add to increased confidence and conversational capabilities, we’ll be pleased. We’ve often considered how our platform is ideally suited to ESL learning — Now, we’re acting on it — Plus, we nabbed a 5-character domain to boot:

Please visit our new site for more information: ESL ai . com

We’re only in a soft-launch over the summer; as we further populate the Apps and introduce new features. We anticipate a more formal launch in the Fall.

Since the early build of the contentAI story engine, there was always the belief that the platform could be utilized for mLearning, mHealth and even mobile Alert messaging that required the ability to “drill down” in short conversation through natural language processing. It turns out, for mLearning, specifically ESL (English as a Second language), there are a lack of “conversational” interactive learning tools.

Based on feedback, coupled with User and Client interest in our initial foray into ESL apps, we’re pleased to now dedicate resources, as well, we’re entering into fascinating relationships, to expand on this offering. First up, we are launching a series of non-commercial online and mobile interactive ESL apps to further refine the product. The first one is now online HERE, and the expanded efforts will be released through a sub-domain. Integrating the ESL conversational content with graphics, for release on native Apps (Android, iPhone) is next on the list – the integration of conversation that is linked to graphical elements applies to these products as well as the advertising and entertainment apps under construction.

The initial ESL app is also the first use of including multiple languages within a single App for us; where we can provide definitions and translation of key words and phrases.

What is fascinating to consider is how QR Codes could lead to interactive narrative experiences are natural to incorporate within linear narrative stories; i.e. making this part of a cohesive story experience, not merely adding access to supplemental Content.

This article struck many chords with us: INNOVATIVE DIGITAL NARRATIVE PROJECTS. It also coincides with just about every on-going discussion re: eBooks and children’s content we’ve had for the past month.

Choice quotes:

“…For a child all narrative is interactive…”

“…a mode of storytelling that puts the user at the heart of the narrative and encourages them to play with characters they love….”

We’re fascinated by the prospect of participating in children’s interactive content where we bring our narrative engine, personalization and contextual features to create memorable experiences. The notion of an AR Pop Up book (with User Generated elements) sits high on our list for “must do this Year” endeavors.

Summer Events, with Brands and Sponsors promoting, are fast approaching. With our new relationships, we’ve turned our attention toward mobile engagement at events.

While Events offer many promotional opportunities, these opportunities can be extended to also include event information and guides, all within the same narrative mobile experience (No more paper). Our Events demo is now in private Beta; just ping us for access.

And, here is our favorite Tweet of the past two months, now that embedding is up and running:

In digital-years, our awareness of QR Tags was pretty late in the game — about 1.5 years ago – but, in market-year (U.S.) the shift in general awareness over the past year and a half has been remarkable — with market-years “use” just coming into play in a serious way.

In that same time period, our interactive narrative engine has been evolving with a focus on mobile engagement.

The intersection of QR Tags and Interactive Narrative (SMS, IM, Mobile Web, Apps) seems like the most natural end-to-end mobile “pull” engagement because it replicates the User’s typical mobile engagement with friends and family. So, instead of migrating online ad units to a mobile space, we engage with Users through what is unique to mobile: QR tags are unique to mobile; interactive text conversation is the most common use of a mobile device.

We use medium-specific tools for instinctual engagement.

Mobile marketing has been limited to “push” marketing and very brief, generally non-contextual engagement. That all changes now. As we see Central Park being “tagged” with QR Codes (pointing the direction toward “episodic” QR Tags and conversational story episodes), we’re seeing the “internet of things” come to life…

contentAI studios are pleased to announce our strategic partnership with U.K. based NUDGE M. Ltd. NUDGEM‘s automated photorealistic 3D video platform combined with contentAI‘s interactive narrative platform jointly deliver deeply personalized and contextual interactive stories and visual experiences for mobile End Users. With a focus on “pull” marketing applications, other opportunities include ePublishing (iPAD) apps and services that are jointly provided by the co-venturing of contentAI and NUDGEM.

Areas of particular interest are in the prospects afforded by HTML5 video where 3D animation elements delivered to the User also interact with accelerometer data for augmented reality applications. Other deliver formats include mobile web and combined SMS/MMS delivery. The personalized videos can further serve as targeted mobile eCoupons at the conclusion of a conversational engagement session; with contextually determined 3D eCoupons being delivered.

Sharing data between the conversation and the video creates a seamless User Experience where the application “understands” the User as they move between text, audio and visual elements. Pre-App demos are available on request and announcements for full Demos will be made in May.

A User launches a QR Tag to begin an SMS (or mobile web IM) conversation, etc. etc. etc.

Today, we see that WHEATIES are the first to start down this path:

http://blogs.msdn.com/tag/archive/2010/04/21/new-wheaties-boxes-tag.aspx

Except, they connect, but don’t take the next step — and converse.

Let’s unleash the conversations with the Cereal Boxes…they’re waiting to happen…

After looking at the calendar, it was apparent that we needed to start gearing up for our Holiday-themed mobile apps now, in April. Between development and approval times, getting into the Holiday-spirit needs to start early.

We are in pre-App preview mode as we evolve our My Santa Talk franchise for Q4 2010. This is one where we want to include all of the bells and whistles of personalized, interactive narrative. And, where we are looking forward to new technology partnerships that will further enhance the end product.

As we move to the next stages of product development, we’ll be assessing the sponsorship/white label model v. paid App. Regardless, what we’re looking forward to is delivering a uniquely personal and contextualized User Experience that evolves annually as we manage the Franchise across emerging delivery platforms (Yes, this year will include iPad).
